What’s the benefit of using a Treadmill over an exercise bike? What are the main differences of using a treadmill over an exercise bike? I'd like to know what parts of the body each work out and which ones are the best to burn fat the fastest and help build endurance. Thanks!!
Mills are more fun and versatile, and you can work various parts of your body in different ways at the same time–see an owner's manual or video(go on line).
The second benefit of the treadmill is that you set the speed for a LONG session, and have to keep pace or fall off, as opposed to slacking off with the bike.
The downside to treadmills over bikes is the cost and maintenance–they tend to need repair. So get a great warranty and buy the extra year. Best of luck. References :
Well, I would say treadmills are better because your not sitting down when you use them but they may be harder on your joints. Then again you can adjust the speed on treadmills and such to suit you. I don't really know a lot about excersize machines and what will help burn more calories though so I'm probabaly not much help. Good luck References :
you burn more, and if you do it longer each day you will see a bigger difference then a bike. when you walk on a treadmill move your arms back in forth which will also burn more fat. i have tested this out awhile ago, and treadmills def. burn more fat. References :
Using a treadmill is comparable to running while using an exercise biking is comparable to, obviously, biking. Generally speaking, running burns calories faster than biking (it is not possible to "burn fat"). However, the use of a treadmill has more of an impact on the joints of the legs, such as the knees and ankles. References :
It is just preference–A treadmill takes up more space though–If you like walking more then that's fine–If you're into biking–there you go–It's just personal–Walking is the easiest–You also work different muscle groups…As for how to burn fat teh fastest–it depends on how hard you push yourself adn what resistance you use…Both are great for getting in shape…
the bike will burn more calories unless the treadmill has an incline like running up a hill you will burn more calories that way cause it's harder References :
as with most things, each has its good and bad points. most ahve been mentioned. why not use both? your body can get used to one kind of exercise and it won't do you as much good. If you vary your workouts, you will get maximum benefit from all of them. References :
The treadmill is best for you.
The treadmill burns more body fat and builds leg muscles faster. In order to lose weight you have to build the major muscles first. More muscles, more fat burns.
The treadmill is better because you are carrying your weight on your whole body frame and muscles. The bike you are sitting down and using the large leg muscles mostly. Anytime you carry your weight along you are better off.
When you ride a bike outdoors you are carrying your body around so it is better than on a bike in a home. But then running, jogging, and walking is better yet since your body is not on wheels, it must propell yourself forward on its own. This uses your main muscles.
The treadmill can use all major body muscles if your also swing your arms when you walk. If you hand on it only works the legs, buttocks, and back. It is not used to firm your abs but you can still lose fat from the abs as your burn it.
The treadmill also builds endurance faster as it is the same as running, jogging and walking. You build your cardio. The bike does the same but much slower (unless your are biking outdoors for long distances).
Make sure you buy a good top brand treadmill that can take the constant pounding. Many you get for $600 or under break down all the time. If you do get a cheaper on buy the service plan and if you then have problems all the time they will fix or take it back. Sears has these plans. Treadmills take constant abuse and they need to be a top notch peice of equipment. The best are the ones used at Gyms. And sometimes you can buy those when they upgrade.
Good Luck References :
first off, would you rather run to a destination or bike. Most people would choose bike, because it's not as hard, running requires more energy, and is a harder burden on your legs.
On a exercise bike you can change the level of dfficulty and stuff, but treadmill's burn more fat and lose more calories, because your not just sitting on your butt and moving your legs, your pumping the whole dang body. References :
Treadmill is better because you burn more calories. You are actually working your whole body. The legs, and even your arms. You also burn more calories just by standing up and not sitting down. References :
exercise bikes move your arms and your legs. i guess a treadmill exercises your stomach muscles as well. but on the bike you can do the work with your legs and your arms will still move and thus get exercise and vice-versa so you can get a bit tired and carry on, keep exercising for longer. on the treadmill, you get tired you stop, but it exercises more of the muscles in the abdominal area. so i wouldn't really say the treadmill is beneficial over the bike, just different. I like treadmills because alot of the newest models let you program times for "interval training", hence you can have it switch every other minute from an all out run to a slow recovery pace. I also like treadmills because they can incline which makes the workout harder without the added burden on your knees that you get from the bike. The only thing I don't like is the possibility that I may fall off of one and break my neck.
I like bikes too. In order to minimize any knee strain you have to moderately increase levels over a series of workouts. I like bikes though because it helps build muscular hypertrophy in the legs and I can get to a higher heart rate on a bike without the worry of falling off. However, none of the modern bikes at my gym have options for "interval training". References :
Assuming you actually run on the treadmill and don't hold on to the side bars your entire body weight is resting on your legs. Which is harder than sitting. Plus your upper body is much more involved in running than when your sitting on a stationary bike with your hands on the handlebars. References :

The treadmill is a bit easier on the knees. You can also vary your walk and use your arms–thus burning more calories in the long run.

A treadmill is HARDER on your knees than a bike. Get a bike where the arms move too so you get a full work out. I personally like to run.

I've always found a treadmill (walking/running) to give me a better workout but a bike is easier on my knees/feet.
Currently I like the elliptical type machines. The best of both worlds.
