Best runnning speed for run 5/6 mile..?

Ive been run for a while, and normally run about 3 miles, at about 10.5 km per hr on a treadmill.. but i understand to run further, i need to drop my speed down abit, but yo what speed ?. i know it depends in the person, but when its jogging jogging and runnning running… whats the average speed to run 5/6 miles, in (km per hr) on a treadmill..

im 29 yrs old, and 83kgs, in the uk..

When I have noticed people in the gym running next to me, most people tend to run at about 6mph, or about 9.6kmh. These people run anywhere from a mile to 10 miles.

That’s most people, but what about you? To be honest I would ask you how you feel after running 3 miles at 10.5kmh? Can you run an extra half mile? If you can go further at your current speed I would do that. Every few weeks add an extra half mile to your run but leave the speed the same. It all depends how you feel at the end of your current 3 miles. If you are very tired at the end – so that you can’t run any further – I would try dropping the speed to 10kmh because that is a nice round number and see how you go at that.

Hi what could i buy,i got???????

    I run at 12.87km/hr (8mph)

I run at this speed from 3 mile to 14 miles

    I am 49 and weigh 200lbs

The guy below just because YOU can’t do it, don’t call people liars!

EDIT: chrisarsehole222 or whatever your name is, I don’t consider myself a phenomonal athlete by any stretch of the imagination, yes I carry a few more pounds than I would like, I am an ex firefighter who likes to keep himself fit, but there is a vast difference from quietly not believing something & calling someone a liar, good job this isn’t face to face!

Just read, Gordon Ramsay the fat British chef has done 5:35 k’s over a full marathon, that is on the road, not on a treadmill, I think I will have to up my game!

There is something called the "talk test"….if you can run and talk at the same time, that means the run is aerobic…good for long distance, or if you can’t talk, it’s anaerobic…you will probably get puffed out very quickly.

Your current pace of 10.5/km per hour, that’s about 5.50 per km…I would just drop that back a little…let’s say 10 khp=6mins/km, then see if it’s ok.

If not you might have to go back to 6:30/km..that would be good if going much longer. But also not slower than that.

Running is running…walking is walking…you can slow jog at 6 km/hr, that’s still running. But you could fast walk at the same pace. At the pace you are at, it’s definitely running.

EDIT: I didn’t say what i can do…but if you hold less than 5 min/k’s for 14 miles and weigh 200 lbs you must be a phenomenal athlete…ok if you say so, but I don’t have to believe you.

Running 5.35 k’s is believable…running below 5′s is not. Anybody with a running background could see that….but instead of defending it you call me a profane name. I wouldn’t go that low. I stand by my original statement…
